The Health Need for Hormone Balance in Males
Symptoms of menopause in women are well studied, but the male hormone imbalance equivalent andropause ADAM (androgen deficiency in male) is essentially ignored. Men suffer needlessly from testosterone deficiency either because hormone imbalance goes unrecognized or the male does not talk about it, especially as it relates to any perceived decline in sexual function.
When men think of diminished testosterone levels, they do not usually relate this to decreased enjoyment of life; however, men may notice a decline in their competitive drive or decreased enthusiasm for things previously enjoyed. Growing older is hard enough for men without having to needlessly suffer from declines in testosterone hormone levels. In talking about mens hormones, testosterone is the hormone that increases sex drive and libido. Significant increases in the male body's muscle tone, lean muscle mass, and a rapid recovery from exercise occur as a result of achieving normal testosterone hormone levels in males. A study authored by Joyce Tenover in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology Metabolism demonstrated a significant increase in lean muscle mass and body weight (due to increased muscle mass) in 13 healthy males ages 57 to 76, receiving 100-mg weekly injections of testosterone.
Protection for The Heart
Researchers in a study published in Arteriosclerosis and Thrombosis (1994) noted so many correlations between the severity of coronary artery disease and low testosterone levels, they concluded low testosterone levels may be a risk factor for coronary artery disease in men.
