They are made by a compounding pharmacy and the pellet itself is smaller than a grain of rice. These hormones are then time released and constantly available for the body to use as needed.
What is the procedure for inserting pellets?
The insertion of hormone pellets is quite simple. The bioidentical hormone pellets are inserted under the skin in a minor in-office procedure. Using a mild anesthetic (like your dentist uses), an area of skin on the buttocks is made numb. A nick in the skin is made (not large enough to require a stitch) and hormone pellets which are smaller than the size of rice granules are inserted under the skin. Afterward, the skin is covered with a Steri-Strip. The whole procedure takes only a few minutes and lasts for many months!
